What a wonderful season Mitchell’s Lodge has had this year!

It has been busy as well as very beautiful. We hope you all got to come up this year and do some whitewater rafting, hike a trail or two, stroll down Main Street and do some shopping, dine in some of the best restaurants anywhere around or see some of our vibrant fall colors. If you have not made it up yet  for Highlands leaf season, we hope you had a chance to take a peek at our live web-cam, . If you have not seen the changing colors, it’s not too late. The leaves are still brilliant around town and especially on your drive up the mountain and at the look offs. This has been one of the most spectacular Fall leaf seasons that we can remember. The oranges, yellows and reds have just been mesmerizing. To make Highlands mountain views even more astonishing, it is that time of year for the “Shadow of the Bear” to rise on Whiteside Mountain. You are able to see the shadow until mid November. For more information and to see a magnificent picture of the bear, visit .

With the leaves being a big hit this fall, the town of Highlands has had many events throughout last month. With the season slowing down, some of the shops and restaurants will be closing or shortening their hours at the beginning of December. However, most shops and restaurants will be open throughout the upcoming Winter season. Some of your favorite restaurants will even host a Thanksgiving dinner.  Also, do not forget, Mitchell’s Lodge is also open year round!

The Highlands 9th Annual Culinary Weekend is a great way to start off the month. The Culinary Weekend will be held from November 5th-8th. The first night will kick off with a wine and craft beer tasting at 7:00 at the Highlands Country Club. Tickets for the first night’s event are $85.00. For the remainder of the weekend, you can enjoy the “Sip and Stroll” on Main Street from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Tickets are $45.00 and sale out quick. There are many more events to attend so be sure to check out their website for times and pricing.

The Highlands Playhouse is showing the movie “Burnt” through November 5th. The playhouse will be teaming up with the Performing Arts Center to show the classic film “Oklahoma.” The showing will be on November 3rd at 7:00 pm. The playhouse will also show “Fantasia” on the 10th at 7:00 pm. These films are all shown on their 35 foot movie screen. For box office information, call 828-526-2695. Also to spark off the Holiday, bring your family to Highlands to be apart of the Highlands Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. There will be hot chocolate and cookies to enjoy while the town of Highlands will light the Town Christmas Tree. Santa will be there to take Christmas wishes and sing Christmas Carols. The tree lighting is from 6:30-8:30 on Saturday, November 28th and will be located on Main Street. If you have never attended the tree lighting, it should be on your list of things to do!

The following Saturday, Highlands will have their Highlands Olde Mountain Christmas Parade. This is a big event in Highlands that you wouldn’t want to miss! The parade will begin at 11:00 am through Main Street and will last about an hour. You can visit Santa after the parade to tell him your Christmas Wishes!

There is still much to do and see in Highlands during November. Make it a family tradition to enjoy the beautiful mountains. Before you make your way home, pick up the perfect Christmas tree for your family. There are several Christmas tree farms around the area, where you can even chop down the tree yourself. Many families throughout the years have started this tradition, and it is truly a great way to get your Holiday started. Tom Sawyer's Christmas Tree Farm is one of the most popular Christmas tree farms around the area. This is a “chose and cut” farm, but also includes an Elf Village for every one of all ages to enjoy.

It is not too late to start a family Holiday tradition. Make Mitchell’s Lodge a part of your tradition. We provide a cozy atmosphere with warm gas fireplaces to cuddle beside on the cool nights. Our suites include Jacuzzi tubs for a nice romantic night, or for the children to enjoy. If you want to have a true mountain experience, we do offer suites with wood burning fireplaces as well. Our lobby is great for keeping warm and cozy and feeling like you’re simply at home without the worries. Enjoy a warm cup of hot cocoa by our fireplace. For a great fall getaway, call us now! We will be more than happy to make reservations for you and help you with any information you may have about the area. We hope to see you soon!
